Bethany was originally a small farming village. Today it has matured into a flourishing suburban community but has preserved it's serene country appeal.
Gracing Bethany's broad spaces and wooded lots are large single family homes, renovated old farmhouses and historic residences. The town covers approximately 21 square miles. The efforts of a local land trust and zoning regulations help to preserve the rural beauty of this community.
A small percentage of Bethany's population continues to work in agriculture. The majority tend to commute to Milford, New Haven and other centers for work and commerce.
Regional School District 5 is made up of Bethany, Woodbridge and Orange. Children from town attend The Bethany Community Elementary School then go on to the regional middle and high schools. Culture, arts, foreign language studies and a college preparatory program are all a part of the educational curriculum.
