WHAT IS A HOME ?
By Ernestine Schuman-Heink
A roof to keep out the rain. Four walls to keep out the wind.
Floors to keep out the cold. Yes, but home is more than that.
It is the laugh of a baby, the song of a mother, the strength
of a father. Warmth of loving hearts, light from happy eyes,
kindness, loyalty, comradeship. Home is first school and first
church for young ones, where they learn what is right, what is
good and what is kind. Where they go for comfort when they
are hurt or sick. Where fathers and mothers are respected and
loved. Where children are wanted. Where the simplest food
is good enough for kings because it is earned. Where money
is not so important as loving kindness. Where even the tea
kettle sings from happiness. That is a home. God bless it.
A home isn't just a purchase. It can be the fulfillment of a dream and the creation of generations of fond memories. I can remember as a child taking long walks in the woods behind my home. I remember sledding in the backyard with my brothers. And who can forget when the family came over for the holidays. Now, as an adult and father of two children, I share in my kids memories. I look out the window of our home and watch my kids not just play, but grow up. It makes me wonder. How will my children start their own home ownership. Will they buy a condominium first? Then marry, sell the condo and buy a small home ? Maybe have a few kids of their own, then sell their smaller home and buy a larger home with a big backyard and a play scape where I push my future grandchildren on the swings ? And what about my wife and I ? Surely just the two of us won't need to stay in the house we live in now. Are we going to want to sell our home and buy something smaller and more manageable. Maybe we'll sell our home, and buy a condo and finally get to travel. Who knows what my future holds.
Whatever your present or future holds, whether buying or selling a home. I truly hope you allow me to help create the next chapter in your families memories.
