Chaplin in Windham county, Connecticut

Chaplin, CT

Charming Chaplin, nestled along the Natchaug River is conveniently located a mere 15 minutes from the University of Connecticut in Storrs and Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic.

Chaplin was settled in 1740 by Deacon Benjamin Chaplin. Deacon Chaplin willed his assets to the citizens of the community to establish a church when he died in 1795. In 1822 the Chaplin Society incorporated an official community on lands given by Mansfield, Hampton and Windham.

Today, Chaplin is a picturesque rural town with mostly small locally owned businesses. During the 19th century the community boasted a rich economy based around the production of silk, paper and quality leather goods. The majestic homes along Main Street, the Chaplin Historic District, still attest to the wealth of these early businesses. Agriculture remains an integral part of the community.

Chaplin Elementary School provides education for children grades K-6 and Regional School District 11 Parish Hill High School serves grades 7-12.
