Cornwall in Litchfield county, Connecticut

Cornwall, CT

The beautiful town of Cornwall is defined by its connection to nature. The Housatonic River, two state parks and portions of two state forests provide residents with an abundance of recreational opportunities.

The community is made up of three distinct villages, each with its own post office, shops and boutiques owned by local antiques dealers and artists.

The red covered bridge in West Cornwall spanning the Housatonic River is one of the most photographed spots in all of Connecticut. Built in 1841, this meticulously preserved 242-foot bridge won the 1973 Federal Highway Administration’s outstanding historic preservation award when the Connecticut Department of Transportation inserted an artfully concealed steel deck to bear the weight of modern traffic. This quaint bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Students through grades K-8 are served by Cornwall Consolidated School. High School students attend Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village with students from the six towns that comprise Regional School District 1.

There is no shortage of recreational activity in Cornwall. Mohawk Mountain State Park provides year-round activities, including the historic ski area that invented artificial snow-making in 1948. Housatonic State Park located on the gorgeous shores of the Housatonic River has 95 camping sites spaced among the serene pine forest. The shores of the Housatonic offer world class fly fishing for trout and bass. There is also easy access to the famous Appalachian Trail.
