Derby, CT

Situated at the juncture of the Naugatuck and Housatonic rivers in the heart of the Naugatuck River Valley, Derby is Connecticut's smallest town, with an area of just over five square miles.

Derby's rich manufacturing history was fueled by the strong and reliable flow of the two rivers. With businesses ranging from gristmills in the late 1600s to large manufacturing plants in the 1900s, Derby was home to manufacturers of all products and sizes for many generations. These days, Derby is a primarily suburban community with its largest employer being Griffin Hospital. Griffin Hospital has appeared multiple times on Fortune 500’s Best Places to Work.

Derby is home to Osbornedale State Park, a popular spot for picnicking and hiking. Visitors should make sure to stop by the Kellogg Nature Center. Witek Park is located on the eastern side of town and also provides hiking trails, soccer fields and other recreation options.

Derby hosts three public schools and is home to one private school. Derby and the surrounding community communities share a thriving adult education program.
