Greenwich in Fairfield county, Connecticut

Greenwich, CT

Greenwich presents a luxurious world of elegant seaside and back country living, shopping, and diverse recreation.

Founded in 1640, Greenwich is one of the oldest towns in America. Bordering New York's Westchester County, Greenwich is known as the gateway to New England. Situated on Long Island Sound and encompassing more than fifty square miles, the community is known for its gorgeous countryside and its exceptional waterfront that includes numerous pristine beaches and harbors. Greenwich is ideally situated in southern Fairfield County, just forty-five minutes from mid-town Manhattan by train and less than an hour from New York City’s two major airports.

Greenwich Avenue is home to many great restaurants as well as many of the best local, national, and international shopping venues. The village of Old Greenwich was known as "Sound Beach" during the 1800’s and the main street is called Sound Beach Avenue. Much of Old Greenwich retains its vintage charm and is populated by local shops, bakeries, and restaurants. The village is very “walkable” and much of its appeal to transplanted New Yorkers is the ability to get to the train, the schools, and downtown on a bicycle or by foot.

The areas known as Byram, Cos Cob, Riverside, and Old Greenwich dot the coastline while areas known as mid and back country stretch to and beyond the scenic Merritt Parkway. The rolling hills and manicured properties of Banksville and Round Hill offer properties in a range of styles and sizes from large country estates to streamlined contemporaries. Blending seamlessly with the town's residential communities are the corporate offices of hedge funds and other businesses headquartered in Greenwich.

Among the town’s many desirable assets are the outstanding educational opportunities, both public and private, as well as the world class Greenwich Public Libraries. Serving the town’s diverse and international population is an excellent health care system that includes Greenwich Hospital which is closely associated with Yale New Haven. Underlying these many public services and facilities is a well-managed town government with a tradition of pay-as-you-go fiscal policy. Greenwich is free of long-term debt and residents enjoy one of the lowest property tax rates in Connecticut.

The town also has an abundance of leisure and cultural activities. Four public and numerous private beaches as well as municipal and private marinas provide access to water sports on Long Island Sound. Swim clubs, two inland lakes, and many public parks and trails provide for hiking, picnicking, rollerblading, bicycling, and horse-back riding. There are five country clubs and the town-owned 18-hole Griffith E. Harris golf course. Babcock Preserve is a popular 297 acre park that offers a variety of activities including walking, running, hiking, and cross country skiing.

Finally, Greenwich offers a broad range of housing options. Rentals start as low as $1,500 to $1,800 and average between $5,000 and $6,000 per month. Single family homes start at around $750,000 and go as high as $50 Million. Condominiums begin in the mid $300,000’s and range up to $6.0 Million.
