Roxbury in Litchfield county, Connecticut

Roxbury, CT

Nestled in the scenic hills along Route 67, which winds along the Shepaug River, Roxbury is a quaint south Litchfield County Town.

Roxbury is a well-known, yet still peaceful, get away destination for artists, actors and business people from New York City who appreciate the country charm and friendly attitude. Hiking trails on the hill and the surrounding river valley near the capped mine shafts are managed by the Roxbury Land Trust. Granite for the Brooklyn Bridge and Grand Central Station in NYC were provided by a granite quarry in the area, still in operation.

Along with Bridgewater and Washington, Roxbury is part of Regional School District 12. An elementary school in Roxbury provides education for local children, followed by middle and high schools in nearby Washington.

The Pickin' and Fiddlin' contest is a popular summer attraction, sponsored by the local fire department. A stage is set up in a large local field and fiddlers, banjo and mandolin players preform for families who can bring picnic fare and sprawl on blankets.
