Salisbury in Litchfield county, Connecticut

Salisbury, CT

In Connecticut's scenic northwest corner, Salisbury is popular destination for weekend getaways. With magnificent views and shopping, Salisbury is a charming New England town.

Originally settled by Dutch families from New York, Salisbury was based on an economy of iron and lime. The hamlet of Lime Rock housed the community's first iron forge and a powerful blast furnace was constructed in the village of Lakeville. After the industrial revolution, artists flocked to the area and converted many of the old mills into studios and residences.

Salisbury Central School provides a solid education for students grades K-8 in two buildings in Lakeville. Both have a plethora of athletic, social and cultural offerings for the community to enjoy.

Numerous ponds in the area offer swimming, boating and fishing. The Salisbury Winter Sports Association sponsors a ski jumping contest every February on Satre Hill, the Salisbury Invitational Ski Jumping Championship.

Salisbury sports the first publicly supported library in the U.S. Holley House Museum offers residents an opportunity travel back to 1876 to discover choices and challenges that faced men and women in 19th century America.
