Thompson is located in the far northeast corner of Connecticut and borders Massachusetts and Rhode Island and covers approximately 49 square miles.

Settlers arrived in Thompson in 1707 and it was incorporated in 1785.

The architecture and style of local housing exemplifies the town's prosperous history. Thompson has an exclusive blend of classic Federal Gothic and Greek Revival homes along with mill village housing, including "Bosses' Houses" and old workers' tenements.

The Historic Thompson Common, where militias trained starting with the French and Indian War until their conclusion in the mid 1800s is Thompson's "gem."

Thompson has town and state parks, a modern library and a community center. Continuing to attract racing enthusiasts from all around is the historic Thompson International Speedway.
