Washington in Litchfield county, Connecticut

Washington, CT

Awe-inspiring scenery, a rich history and a multitude of cultural offerings draw residents and visitors to the charismatic town of Washington, which has a well-built public education system and a broad range of cultural and recreational activities.

Executives and the many distinguished actors and artists who make Washington their home are grateful for the close distance to New York City, as well as the elegant homes with expansive properties and rustic privacy. Some of the most remarkable colonial architecture in New England surrounds Washington's stunning village green, including the buildings of The Gunnery, a coeducational boarding and day prep school.

Washington, along with Bridgewater and Roxbury, is part of the Connecticut Regional School District 12. Regionally they share middle and high schools in Washington.

Swimmers take pleasure in the town beach on Lake Waramaug in New Preston, a charming village on the north side of town. The 750-acre Steep Rock Reservation provides hiking trails, which trail the banks of the Shepaug River. The hike to the summit of Steep rock is the most popular, and offers impressive views of the river and a geographical mark known as the Clamshell.
