Granite Springs in Westchester county, New York

Granite Springs

The tiny hamlet of Granite Springs, New York is located within the town of Somers, in Westchester County, about 50 miles north of Manhattan. Grand Central Terminal can be reached in about 65 minutes via the Metro-North Railroad Harlem Line.

The quaint New England style architecture, the winding roads, and bucolic stone walls are what bring most people home to Granite Springs. The area has never been known as a metropolis of any sort, but rather an agricultural land. In fact, in the early 1800s, Mr. Hachaliah Bailey bought an African Elephant named Old Bet, to help him in farming. Old Bet soon became a local attraction, and Mr. Bailey decided to take her, and several other exotic animals on tour. The traveling caravan became what we know of today as Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus.

Other attractions in Granite Springs include Stuart's Fruit Farm, a pick-your-own farm that features apples, pumpkins, berries, and other produce. Also located nearby is the Reis Park, an 82-acre park with fitness stations, a skate park, and walking trails. The Lasdon Park and Arboretum is an excellent place to birdwatch or simply relax to the sights and smells of the acres of azaleas, magnolias, and chestnut trees.

Children in Granite Springs attend the Somers Central School District.

Granite Springs represents quintessential Westchester living, with peaceful surroundings, abundant job opportunities, and idyllic scenery.
