The town of Colchester, Connecticut is located in New London County. It has a population of over 16,000 people. Once known as Jerimiah’s Farme, Colchester is a fast-growing town with a rich history. It’s been nicknamed “The Catksills of Connecticut” for its peaceful country setting.
Colchester has the benefits of New England country living and is close to several cities—about 30 minutes to Hartford. The villages of Westchester and North Westchester are located within Colchester. The town’s center is a census-designated village.
Colchester has several lakes and recreational areas including Gardner Lake, Pickerel Lake, Day Pond State Park, Salmon River State and Air Line State Park Trail. It was the first town to be certified with the National Wildlife Federation as community Wildlife Habitat. Colchester is also home to Priam Vineyards, several restaurants including Harry’s Place, a historic drive-in restaurant.
Colchester has a well-performing school system with two elementary schools, one middle schools, one high school and several private schools.
