Newsweek magazine ranked Farmington High School the top public high school in Connecticut in May 2005. Independent and parochial schools compliment the town's high-achieving, well-funded public school system. The town is also home to the famous Miss Porter's School, a private boarding school for girls, as well as Tunxis Community College.
