Norwalk is a city located in Fairfield County along the coast of Long Island Sound. Incorporated in 1649, the city has a population of over 85,000. Norwalk is in close proximity to New York City (about an hour drive by car) and has easy access to the Metro-North Commuter Train with four different stations in the city.
Once nicknamed the “Oyster Town,” Norwalk is popular for fishermen and is well-known for oysters and shellfish. There are several marinas located in town for boating enthusiasts. Located in town is Calf Pasture Beach, The Maritime Aquarium, Sheffield Island Ferry and Stepping Stones Museum for Children. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, a National Historical Landmark, is one of the oldest Second Empire style country houses in the United States is also located in Norwalk.
Norwalk has several unique neighborhoods including Rowayton, Norwalk Center and Spring Hill. South Norwalk (SoNo), has an eclectic mix restaurants, shops, galleries and night spots--making it a popular destination for locals and visitors.
