Many of Ashaway's residents commute more than 20 minutes to work. The Amtrak station is easily accessible in Westerly, Rhode Island, just four miles away.

Ashaway's elementary school serves a little over 200 students in grades K-4. It is part of the Chariho regional school district, which is also responsible for schools in the towns of Charlestown, Richmond, and the four-village town of Hopkinton.
