Coventry in Kent county, Rhode Island

Coventry

Coventry is the largest land-area town in Rhode Island, with 62.3 square miles. It is ideally situated near the towns of Cranston, Warwick, and Scituate, making for an easy drive to work or shopping.

Coventry has long been a rural town, occupied by farmers. Some of the old homesteads and building still remain today, including the Waterman Tavern, which was established in the 1740's, and the Nathanael Greene Homestead from 1770.

Nathanael Greene may be a familiar name to history enthusiasts. He was a resident who, like many in Coventry, supported the patriot cause during the War of Independence. Green rose through the ranks to become second in command, next to George Washington himself, in the U.S. Army.

The abundance of land area has attracted many to Coventry, to the point where the town is moving to limit building of new homes in order to preserve the rural essence of Coventry.

It is easy to see why Coventry is a community in high demand. Although in close proximity to hubs such as Cranston, Warwick, and Providence, it still is a haven of natural sights and small-town amenities.

Coventry is host to youth sport leagues for football, softball, basketball, and baseball, making it ideal for young sports lovers.

The Coventry Greenway is a 14.2 mile paved path for bikers, walkers, skaters, and joggers. The scenic passage has benches for resting, and a wide variety of scenery to be enjoyed.

There are nearly 34,000 residents of Coventry. Career opportunities are available, with the construction trade, and public administration leading the top occupation spots.

For those seeking the convenience of a city hub, while resting their head at night in the peacefulness of a smaller town, Coventry may be the perfect place to call home.

Education

The educational climate index chart is based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s Socioeconomic Status (SES) measure. Factors in this measure are income, educational achievement and occupation of persons within a ZIP code. Because this measure is based on the population of an entire ZIP code, it may not reflect the nature of an individual school.
