The town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island is located in Newport County, on Aquidneck Island.

Portsmouth encompasses Prudence Island, Patience Island, Hog Island, and Hope Island.

Connecting the town of Bristol to Portsmouth is the Mount Hope Bridge, a 1,200 foot long suspension bridge with towers 285 feet high that rises 135 feet over the water.

The coastal town of Portsmouth is home to the headquarters of U.S. Sailing, the national governing body of sailing. The town also hosts the Newport International Polo Series.

Portsmouth boasts many beautiful outdoor sights. Green Animal Topiary Garden is a must-see. The gardens have dozens of topiaries carved into animal shapes, water fountains, flower gardens, and beautiful seaside views.

Other outdoor sights include a vineyard, and a farm which hosts a challenging annual corn maze.

Portsmouth has three elementary schools, all enrolling under 450 students per school.
