This Georgian center chimney colonial home was built in 1752 by Josiah Parmelee, one of Killingworth's founding fathers. The home still features the original wide board floors, 3 working fireplaces including a beehive oven in the kitchen, doors with original hardware including leather washers, chestnut paneling, ornate built-ins and a front and rear staircase. The front entry foyer is flanked by the living room and dining room each with a fireplace and hand-cut paneling. The eat-in kitchen is to the rear with a large fireplace with woodstove insert. The second floor has three bedrooms and an additional room currently used as a library but it most likely served as a bedroom back in the 18th century. The walk-up attic is impressive with the massive center stone chimney visible and the post and beam construction a work of art-perfect for storage or possibly finishing as living space. Recent renovations included the addition of thermopane windows and easy care vinyl siding. The updated mechanicals and the remodeled kitchen makes the home very comfortable. A town historian once wrote that this is "One of the finest homes in Killingworth". The Parmelee's were joiners (fine craftsman of wooden components of a home like stairs and doors) hence the reason this home has such beautiful paneled built-ins and detailed front staircase. A three bay carriage barn, chicken coop, fertile gardens and 2 acre lot makes this location an excellent spot for a home business or farm stand.
