New Hartford remains the quiet rural community it was at its founding and provides commuters with easy access to Hartford and Torrington.
Winding country roads pass through charming scenes of fields and meadows, with quaint farm houses. A few new industries have come to the town, but plenty of open space has allowed the town to preserve its small town feel.
Sandy beaches and swimming can be found at Stancliff Cove. Town maintained Brodie Park offers swimming, boating, playgrounds and cross-country skiing. A local recreation program arranges team sports such as soccer, basketball, softball and little league baseball. Ski Sundown offers residents and visitors with skiing and snowboarding during winter months.
Residents of all ages can find enjoyable programs at the two public libraries in town, and New Hartford has an active historical society working to preserve local color and history.
