Sherman is a lovely town in northeastern Fairfield County.
Sherman's sterling public school system is a perfect example to illustrate the unique quality of life in this charming town. Sherman School provides education for kindergarten through eighth grade. High school students are given the option of four schools in the area, although most attend New Milford High School or Shepaug Valley Regional High School in nearby Washington, Conn. There is also a privately operated nursery school available.
Numerous athletic fields, tennis courts and a town park provide residents with leisure and recreational opportunities. The state's largest body of water, Candlewood Lake, offers a pleasant beach and boat launch. Parts of Squantz Pond State Park are in Sherman. The Appalachian Trail runs through the north end of Sherman and offers hiking enthusiasts plenty of access to nature
Land preservation is very important to the residents of Sherman. The Naromi Land Trust owns and preserves more than 850 acres, has conservation limitations set on an additional 350 acres and manages 200 acres of productive farmland.
