Prudence Island is located in the geographical center of Narragansett Bay. It is the third largest island in the bay, and is part of the coastal town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
Today, there are only 88 year-round residents on Prudence Island. The 5.5 square mile island boasts rocky and sandy beaches and quintessential dirt paths. A daily ferry to Bristol transports people to and from the island.
Prudence Island has a small claim to fame: the 2012 film Moonrise Kingdom was filmed on Prudence Island and nearby Jamestown.
