Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Lydia Hansen Benedict moved to Connecticut the summer after high school. After attending Mitchell College in New London, CT, Lydia went on to obtain a B.A. in English from Northeastern University in Boston, where she also worked in the College of Engineering.

Lydia also lived in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia for nine years where she created an organic family farm on a 20-acre property with a Civil War era house which she renovated. P assionate about local, organic food, Lydia has spent many hours in the garden and subsequently in the kitchen freezing, canning, and otherwise preserving the food she grows.

Additionally, Lydia spent seventeen years homeschooling her four children which she primarily accomplished while living on their Virginia farm and with the assistance of college students to tutor her children in subjects ranging from math and science to Spanish and music. As an English major, Lydia instructed her children in reading, writing, history and much more.

However, southeastern Connecticut has called her home more than once, both after college in the greater Boston area and again after her stint in the south.
Ultimately, she returned to the very town she first came to as an eighteen-year-old: Waterford, Connecticut. She and her husband live there with their four children just a mile from the home they first rented as newly-weds.

Lydia especially loves old homes and has overseen renovations on multiple properties, ranging from a condominium to her current home abutting Harkness State Memorial Park. Now pursuing her endeavors in real estate while also developing her lifelong passion for writing, Lydia enjoys gardening, writing and taking walks along the beaches, parks and towns in her little corner of Connecticut which she simply calls home.
